Examples within the Government Sector

Government initiatives using information and communications technologies include:

  • Internet publication to improve access to information and services, specially important for remote locations
  • Internet-based information systems with restricted sharing enabling inter-department or remote unit reporting and collaboration
  • Sharing corporate services across whole-of-government and the public sector, including Supply (eProcurement), integrated Human-Resource management, Finance, Asset systems and Reporting systems
  • Promoting transport systems through online journey planning supported by effective technical mapping and geographic information
  • Enhancing performance of existing transport infrastructure and services
  • Integrated Courts Management Systems (whole-of-justice approach to managing case flow) incorporating criminal, financial and enforcement systems in the Supreme, District and Magistrates’ Courts
  • Converting historic, paper-based records to electronic format with wider data sharing
  • Integrating advanced technologies with global positioning, remote sensing, auto-detection identification and tracing systems (for example, to ensure protection of the natural environment, or maintain animal and plant health, or monitor agricultural product quality and safety)
